He has arthritis in his right front elbow, most likely from his squirrel chasing and attempts to jump up into the trees. Vet recommends anti-inflammatories and weight loss. Then we will see how he is doing. Worst case, he gets the ‘scope. Maybe cortisone shots. We will see.

So not great news, but not awful degenerative joint disease. Poor Toby is too chubby, which I feel terrible about.

My Rottweiler has degenerative joint disease at 2 and needed kneecap replacements. Trust me, it’s good news.

That’s not too bad. That sort of arthritis pain is usually reasonably manageable .

Arthritis in pets can be pretty much cured nowadays with stem cell treatment, if you’re prepared to throw money at it. A frie nd of mine has Bernese Mountain Dogs, which are very prone to it,and she’s had miracle results with several of them .

Veter inary stem cell research i s miles in advance of human- subject stuff beca u se nobody’s upset about the right to life issues.

It’s not bad news, I had an arthritic lab shepherd mix, she needed a baby aspirin to get going in the morning, she lived a long and happy squirrel chasing life.
